swell software

• CopyWrite, a Mac OS X word processor for writers, complete with a version control system.

Abandonia.com hosts abandoned DOS games. Now I just need to find a way to play the DOS versions of King's Quest and Monkey Island on my Mac...

• The Ultimate OS X Open Source CD-ROM:

The latest issue of MacAddict has a small section on OSS, but it occurred to me that I’ve not seen anything like TheOpenCD but for Mac OS X. It really is a shame, seeing there’s so much quality software out there that runs perfectly well on the platform (owing much, no doubt, to the Unix roots of most OSS allowing easy porting to OS X). So I started wondering, if I were compiling the Ultimate OS X Open Source CD, what would I put on it?

FreeSCI, I'm pretty sure, will play the Sierra Online games like King's Quest and Leisure Suit Larry. There is an OS X version, too, I believe. http://freesci.linuxgames.com

ScummVM (http://www.scummvm.org) will play Monkey Island and many of the LucasArts games. I'm pretty sure it works under OS X. http://www.scummvm.org

Ah, those crazy Open Source legacy gaming freaks. ;-)

Hope this helps.
